The varsity volleyball team traveled to Providence Christian Academy for an 8 team tournament. The team swept through pool play in the morning beating Apalachee 25-18,23-25,15-4, Mill Creek 25-19,25-10 and Atlanta Classical Academy 25-11,25-17. That set up an after lunch semi-final against old region foe Madison County. The Red Raiders put up a good battle but in the end fell in two sets 25-18,25-14 to set up a finals rematch against Mill Creek. The Lions got off to a fantastic start and took the lead early in a match that was never really in doubt for a 25-15,25-10 two set victory.
The offense in the five matches was a balanced attack, led by junior
Claire McEnaney with 27 kills, sophomore
Stella House with 25 kills and sophomore
Courtlyn Richard with 24 kills. The offense was run beautifully by the setters led by sophomore
Catherine Morris with 47 assists and junior
Eveliina Campbell picked up 44 assists. The defense had seven players with double digit digs led by senior
Andrea Gonzalez with 27. Sophomore
Brigid Rajewski added 11 aces from the serving line to her 16 digs to help keep the opposition off balance.
The five victories raised the teams early season record to 11-0 and a #3 ranking in AAAAA (maxpreps). That undefeated record will be put to the test with our toughest match yet this Thursday against #1 Blessed Trinity at Northview High School at 6pm.
