In the opening match of the season, the Lady Lions got off to a 9-1 lead in set one against North Atlanta. The Warriors chipped away at the lead to pull even at 20 and then made the plays down the stretch to take set one 25-22. St. Pius X responded the way you are supposed to and took the loss as a challenge. They came back to win set two 25-18 and set three was never in doubt 15-7. The team was led by 9 kills by sophomore
Courtlyn Richard, 14 assists for sophomore
Catherine Morris and 16 digs for senior
Andrea Gonzalez. Consistently strong defense and an excellent job of the setters running the offense led the team to victory.
In the nightcap the Lions played the home Dunwoody Wildcats. While Dunwoody did a great job extending points with defensive effort, the Lions took control of the net with strong hitting and blocking to take the two set win: 25-21, 25-20. Richard with 7 kills and sophomore
Stella House with 6 kills paced the offense. Junior
Eveliina Campbell added 11 assists to the effort and another 9 digs for Gonzalez to lead the defense.
The team opens its home schedule on Thursday with a 5:00pm match against North Gwinnett and a 7:00pm match against Lakeside.
