The volleyball team fought through some adversity on Tuesday but were not able to get over the hump, losing a tough five set match to Johns Creek 3-2. The team jumped out to an early lead in set 1 but were side tracked when sophomore
Stella House, the teams only six rotation player to date, had to depart with an injury. Junior Isa Boyd and sophomore
McLean Lyons stepped into the void at outside hitter and the team managed to hold on to their lead and win set 1. Set two went to the Gladiators followed by a convincing set 3 win for the Lions to bring them 1 set from victory. Unfortunately serve receive woes made it hard for the Lions to hold on and the Gladiators found a way to win sets 4 & 5.
The offense in the match revolved around the hitting of sophomore
Courtlyn Richard and sophomore
Landry Hess. Seniors
Andrea Gonzalez and
Tyler Andrews led the defensive effort on the night and worked hard to keep the team in the match despite having to run a frequent two man serve receive. With the team having to adjust things for a couple of weeks the Lions will close out the regular season with a pair of matches on Thursday at Mill Creek before beginning the region tournament at home next Tuesday against Chattahoochee.
