St. Pius X - In a rare opportunity for all four levels of the volleyball program to play together under one roof, the team participated in the Rally Cup at Lakepoint this past weekend.
The varsity team finished 3rd in top varsity division losing to eventual tournament champion, Blessed Trinity, in the semi-finals. The team opened their day with a 25-21, 25-21 win over Union Grove, who came into the match with a 9-0 record.
Sila Llata and
Claire McEnaney led a balanced offense with 7 kills each. 20 assists for
Eveliina Campbell and 12 digs for
Sofia Ziran added to the effort. The second match brought on Independence High out of Tennessee who fell to the Lions 14-25, 25-22, 15-7.
Sila Llata had a season high 9 kills in the match. She was supported by 3 blocks from
Mali Nyankori and 14 assists and 7 digs from
Eveliina Campbell. The win guaranteed a trip to the Gold playoff bracket. The team closed pool play against eventual runner-up Baylor and fell 25-16, 25-17.
Bella Gratch had a team leading 4 kills and
Sofia Ziran added 11 digs. The day ended for the Lions in their semi-final against rival Blessed Trinity when they lost 25-21, 25-17.
In other action the JV team won the power division of the tournament going undefeated on the day. The Freshman team got revenge for their only loss of the day to Creekview by turning around and beating them in the finals to also take home the top spot. The middle school team lost in the semi-finals of their division to garner another 3rd place finish for the Lions.
