Ksionzyk Named Head Baseball Coach

2005 graduate is second alumnus to take Golden Lion helm

St. Pius X Catholic High School is delighted to announce Kevin Ksionzyk as new head baseball coach, replacing Andy Harlin. Ksionzyk (prono: "shawn-zick") has been with the Golden Lion program for 13 years, coaching in all aspects of the program, from 8th grade to assistant Varsity level, where since 2021 he served as Pitching Coach. He becomes just the second alumnus to be named head baseball coach, following Mike Marshall (SPX '66), who guided the Golden Lions for one season in 1980. As a player, Ksionzyk (SPX '05) led the team in batting (.507) his senior year, and helped the team to their first ever state playoff quarterfinal appearance the year before.

I’m grateful for the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of legendary coaches—devout Catholics and servant leaders—who’ve built such a proud and rich baseball tradition.
Kevin Ksionzyk '05

In his role as Pitching Coach, Ksionzyk helped the Golden Lions to their best ever record just last year, at 34-4, reaching the state quarterfinals. Star pitcher McKale Stevenson, who will play next for Belmont University, set a school record for season wins under Coach K's guidance, with 10.

Coach Ksionzyk is a perfect combination of a player's coach and student of the game. The SPX baseball teams of the future are blessed to have him leading the way.

Coach Ksionzyk is the kind of leader who not only builds great baseball players, but better men. His passion, discipline, and commitment to doing things the right way left a lasting impact on me and everyone who had the chance to play for him. St. Pius isn’t just getting a coach they’re gaining a culture changer who’s going to bring a ring home.

Former St. Pius X Catholic High School Athletic Director Mark Kelly ‘70 has a legendary saying: “All Roads Lead to St. Pius.” Well, current school president Aaron Parr ’05, a standout basketball star, was a classmate of Ksionzyk.
""There is no doubt that Coach Ksionzyk is a great baseball coach. However, what put him over the top for us is his passion for St. Pius X and Catholic education," said Parr. "He is going to make a positive difference in the lives of our student-athletes that will last long after graduation."

While Ksionzyk begins a new adventure as head coach, it's safe to say his Athletic Director, Joe McCurdy, who began on July 1, will be familiar with the pressure and responsibility of leading St. Pius X to success.
“It was GHSA dead week, so I thought a ‘soft’ launch into my next career would be so welcome. On my third day in office (July 3),  our legendary baseball coach calls and says he's resigning. While I was immediately in crisis mode, after a few breaths, support from our amazing staff, discernment and prayer, I thought we had the right candidate. And when Kevin walked into the interview with a full, detailed vision plan for the future - prioritizing our Catholic identity alongside winning baseball games -  I knew it."

Earning this position is a testament to the support of my former players, my wife and family who have always encouraged me to pursue this dream, and the administration whose faith in me has been unwavering. As head coach, I will lead with love, integrity, and passion—foundational values that will shape a culture focused on developing men of faith, character, and resilience.
