Today, at Richard Bell Field in Cartersville, the Golden Lions split the first two games of the best-of-three state quarterfinals series. 

In game 1, St. Pius X beat the Cartersville Purple Hurricanes 7-1. Staring pitcher Colton Sumpter '27 allowed 1 run on 4 hits while striking out 9 over 6 innings. Connor Tysver '28 pitched a scoreless 7th to close the game out. Andrew Biggers '28, Nolan Newsham '27 and Easton Bailey '26 each had two hits in the game. 

Cartersville took the second game 3-1. Cole Cirone '27 struck out 7 over 5 scoreless innings. Jacob Morton '27 pitched a scoreless 6th in relief. 

The teams will meet again tomorrow, Saturday, May 8 for the decisive game 3. First pitch will be at 3:00 p.m. at Richard Bell Field.
