St. Pius X - The St. Pius X softball team scored 14 runs in the last two innings and defeated the North Springs Spartans 20-12 Thursday evening at Spellman Field. The win was the 10th in a row for the Golden Lions, who have not lost in the month of September. Pius improves their record to 14-3 overall, and retains first place in the region at 10-1. The Spartans fall to 10-9, 7-4.
The Golden Lions jumped on the board first, with two runs coming across in the first inning. North Springs answered with 8 in the second inning, and led Pius 12-6 after the fourth inning. The fifth inning is when the Golden Lions found their offensive power, pushing across eight runs in the fifth, and six in the sixth inning.
St. Pius X scored 20 runs on 18 hits, led by Sophomore
Maya McDaniel, who was 3-5 at the plate, had 4 RBI, and scored twice. It was a tough night for the Pius pitchers, but fortunately held the Spartans at the end of the game until the offense took over.
The Golden Lions return to action on September 24th as they take on Lithonia in a region game. The first pitch from Spellman Field will be at 5:30 PM.
